The English word Phobia is originated from the Greek word “Phobos” meaning “fear”. Every individual in this society will have some kind of phobia. From person to person, it may vary but surely they will have some kind of phobias. Wikipedia defines Phobia as
A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation the affected person will go to great lengths to avoid, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed. If the feared object or situation cannot be avoided entirely, the affected person will endure it with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities.
So overall the word phobia indicates some kind of fear towards a certain object or some situations. Okay, let me tell you some weird phobias that you might have not heard at all. The following are the list of those strange phobias:
1. Stasiphobia
Stasiphobia refers to the fear of walking or standing. Because of this phobia, the individual may have chances of development of Astasia-abasia which is a kind of disorder.
2. Telephone Phobia
This phobia is the fear of making or attending a telephone call. This is related to the social phobia since both phobias arise when the individual is forced to engage with social circle.
3. Philophobia
This phobia is the fear of falling in love or any emotional attachment. Mainly those people who fail in their relationships will develop this phobia. This is because those individual feel that falling in love might affect their career growth or they feel that it will not stand for a long time. That’s the main reason for this phobia.
4. Phobophobia
It is the fear of phobias itself. The individuals who fear their other phobias will come under this category. It will not cause any anxiety disorder but it will have its effect in the internal dreadful sensations similar to the psychological problems.
5. Technophobia
It is the fear of advanced technologies, complex devices, especially computers. Technophobia is more or less similar to cyberphobia where the individual expresses his irrational fear of or aversion to computers or more generally, fear and/or inability to learn about new technologies.
So this is all those strange phobias that you might have not heard about in your life. Wondering who’s gonna have these kinds of phobias in real life??? Believe me, there are so many people out there with the above phobias. For your info, I have that Philophobia. Who knows… maybe you too have some of those above weird phobias.
